Goalie Veini Vehvilainen will be joining the Columbus Blue Jackets in the bubble due to Elvis Merzlikins not being 100% healthy.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are adding another goalie into the mix while in Toronto. Veini Vehvilainen will be joining Columbus after going through quarantine protocols per Jeff Svoboda.
Veini Vehvilainen appeared in 33 games for Columbus’ AHL affiliate Cleveland Monsters during the 2019-20 season. Vehvilainen finished with a 2.76 GAA and .901 save percentage during his first season in Cleveland.
Columbus has started Joonas Korpisalo during their first two games in their series with Tampa Bay. The Blue Jackets also have Matiss Kivlenieks as an option to turn to in case Merzlikins is out for a long period of time. Vehvilainen appears to be insurance if for some reason Columbus finds themselves in a situation without multiple goaltenders.
