Browns pick up options on Garrett, Njoku

The Cleveland Browns are exercising their fifth-year options on two former first round picks, defensive end Myles Garrett and tight end David Njoku.

This was news that was going to come sooner or later. The Cleveland Browns are picking up the options on both Myles Garrett and David Njoku.

Picking up the option on Myles Garrett is an absolute no-brainer. Garrett is one of the best pass rushers in the league and can change a game in just one play. Garrett has 30.5 sacks in just 37 games in his first three seasons. This is the quality of player that is worth keeping around. At some point Cleveland will need to work on signing the former 1st overall pick to a contract extension.

Now onto David Njoku. Picking up the option on Njoku is fine, but there is still a question in regards to just what he is able to contribute to the team. Cleveland signed Austin Hooper and drafted Harrison Bryant this past weekend. Adding two tight ends to the roster is not necessarily an endorsement of Njoku. Even though the Browns picked up his option, an eventual trade of Njoku cannot be ruled out of the realm of possibilities.
