The Cleveland Browns have signed free agent right tackle Jack Conklin to a three-year $42 million deal with $30 million guaranteed.
Offensive line was a clear area of need for the Cleveland Browns as they headed into this offseason. The team needed to do anything they could to improve this group and that is just what they did Monday, signing Jack Conklin to a three-year deal.
Cleveland was rumored to have interest in Conklin earlier this offseason.
Jack Conklin was drafted by the Tennessee Titans with the 8th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Michigan State. Conklin has only missed seven games in his four year career.
This is a massive deal for Cleveland. The contract is short and front-loaded. This will give Cleveland flexibility moving forward when it comes to addressing their own players and handing out possible extensions.
Cleveland now has some options in front of them with the signing of Conklin. They can move on from Chris Hubbard without having to worry about a starting right tackle. They can also consider all options available to them in the upcoming NFL Draft. Drafting a tackle 10th overall is no longer a necessity, they can consider any and all options. A strategy which will certainly be more successful than only considering one position.
