Browns: Andrew Berry could end up elsewhere

The widely accepted favorite to be the next general manager of the Browns could end up elsewhere instead of returning to Cleveland.

This could be the first obstacle for the new Cleveland Browns regime. They are interested in interviewing Philadelphia Eagles Vice President of Football Operations Andrew Berry for their vacant general manger position, but has interest from other teams. Berry was the Vice President of Player Personnel with Cleveland from 2016 through 2018.

This would be part of their organizational alignment that owner Jimmy Haslam desires. The first part was retaining Paul DePodesta. The second was the hire of Kevin Stefanski. A trio of Berry, Stefanski, and Paul DePodesta is clearly on the analytical side of the spectrum.

The Browns are familiar with Andrew Berry and vice versa. That is a positive and a negative. As Dustin Fox noted above, this could be cause for Berry to go somewhere else. Berry is well aware of the dysfunction in the organization. How the team always manages to make things worse when they attempt to make things better. Continuously shooting themselves in the foot and then doubling down on it. These are all valid reasons to find employment elsewhere.

Perhaps Andrew Berry could be convinced to be brought back into the fold due to the presence of Paul DePodesta. The hire of Kevin Stefanski and his willingness to work with the analytics department could also persuade him. It really comes down to whether or not Andrew Berry trusts the Haslams and the process the Browns will be utilizing.
