Joe Schobert makes PFF TOTW

Cleveland Browns linebacker Joe Schobert has been named to Pro Football Focus’ Team of the Week for Week 3 of the preseason.

The Cleveland Browns defense features one of the best performances of the 2019 preseason. Joe Schobert has been named to Pro Football Focus’ Team of the Week.

Joe Schobert is the only member of the Browns defense to be named to this team. Schobert finished Week 3 with five total tackles which tied for the team lead. Three were of the solo variety and two were for a loss. The Browns linebacker also managed to defend one pass in the contest and tally one QB hit. Schobert’s one pass defense tied for the team lead as well.

Joe Schobert is one of the more important pieces to the Cleveland Browns defense. While he is not the flashiest of players, his play does make an impact. When Schobert missed some time last season the difference was night and day. Cleveland’s defense was significantly better with Schobert on the field. Schobert excels in pass coverage. This is becoming more and more important as the NFL becomes more about the pass.

Since Schobert is so proficient in pass coverage it may be wise to lock him up with a long term deal. Schobert is only 25 and his contract expires after the year and he will become an unrestricted free agent. Joe Schobert could be an integral part of the Browns defense for years to come.
