Mack Wilson is Browns top rookie

Rookie linebacker Mack Wilson has been named the recipient of the Maurice Bassett Award which is given to the teams top rookie.

Mack Wilson has been the best rookie for the Cleveland Brown this preseason. Now he has an award to prove it. Wilson has received the Maurice Bassett Award which is voted on by the media.

Mack Wilson tweeted the following after the announcement was made.

For anyone who has paid any attention to the Browns this preseason this is hardly a surprise. Many have ranted and raved about Mack Wilson and for good reason. Wilson has been very impressive as the offseason winds down and the regular season approaches.

Wilson was even voted the top player from Pro Football Focus after Week 1 of the preseason.

Wilson’s interception return for a touchdown certainly helped that effort.

This was Wilson’s first of two interceptions on the evening. Wilson intercepted another pass later in the game. Although this one did not go for a touchdown.

It appears that John Dorsey has found another key player for this Browns defense. Granted this is early, but so far things appear to be headed in the right direction.

Mack Wilson’s role this upcoming season is not yet defined. It will be hard to justify not playing him, but there are still other productive linebackers on the Browns roster. Currently Wilson is the backup WILL linebacker behind Christian Kirksey. However if Wilson is able to play this well against regular starters he may not be the backup for long. If that does occur some potentially difficult decisions about the Browns linebackers may become a little less difficult.

It’s celebration time for Mack Wilson right now but that should not stop him from trying to improve every single day.
