Collin Sexton makes All-Rookie 2nd team

Cleveland Cavaliers rookie point guard Collin Sexton has been named to the NBA’s All-Rookie second team.

While the Cleveland Cavaliers season may be over their rookie point guard received an accolade. Collin Sexton has been named to the All-Rookie second team. Sexton received 132 points based off of first team and second team votes.

Sexton was going to have a hard time passing some of the names on the first team. The five members of the first team had outstanding rookie campaigns and may have been able to overcome poor team seasons. Cleveland underperformed nearly all season long while having expectations of a better season. A series of injuries derailed the Cavaliers season before it could even get going. Afterwards a flurry of trades dismantled the team and left everyone with still standing with limited talent in regards to teammates. Even so Collin Sexton had an outstanding season.

Collin Sexton appeared in all 82 games with 72 starts. Sexton scored 16.7 points per game on 43 percent shooting of the field. While Sexton initially struggled from three-point range, he finished the season making just over 40 percent of his shots from deep. This came off of 1.5 makes per game on just over 3.5 attempts. This increased as the season progressed due to the fact that Sexton started the year taking deep two-point shots. These deep two-pointers became three-pointers once Sexton took about one step back. Not only did this improve his overall scoring line, it improved his three-point shooting percentage as well.

It appears that the Cleveland Cavaliers have a piece to build around. Collin Sexton still has some work to do in regards to his overall game, but his growth over the duration of his rookie season shows that he is able to and willing to improve. This will go a long way as the Cavaliers look to retool in the post-LeBron era.
