According to reports the Cleveland Browns are shopping tight end Darren Fells on the trade market before the onset of free agency.
Cleveland is not done on the trade market. The Browns are shopping Darren Fells to teams and he is reportedly drawing interest. Pro Football Talk tweeted this out Saturday night.
The fact that John Dorsey is looking to move Darren Fells is a bit of a surprise. Fells is an excellent blocking tight end and currently there is not another player with that skill on the roster. Fells can be an integral to the running game and he can catch the occasional pass. With 11 receptions for 117 yards and three touchdowns, Fells was primarily used in the running game rather than the passing game.
While Darren Fells is not a consistent threat in the passing game, he does possess value. This is due to the fact David Njoku and Seth DeValve are not necessarily great blocking tight ends. In fact Njoku is really just an oversized wide receiver masquerading as a tight end. If Fells were to be moved that would leave the Browns without a blocking tight end. While they are not glamorous, they still have value.
The shopping of Darren Fells could be due to new head coach Freddie Kitchens. Kitchens may have relayed to the powers that be that he does not intend to use someone of Fells’ skill set next season and to get something for him rather than cut him. Of course this is just pure speculation and not based on fact whatsoever.
It feels fairly safe to say that Darren Fells will not be on the Cleveland Browns roster when next season starts. Shopping players this early signals the team intends to reshape the roster and that Darren Fells is not in their plans for next season.
