Jose Ramirez homered twice for the Cleveland Baseball Club as they defeated the Detroit Tigers for the third time in four days.
Don’t look now but Jose Ramirez is scoring hot. Ramirez hit two home runs in the Cleveland Baseball Club’s 7-4 win over the Detroit Tigers Sunday. Both home runs from Ramirez were of the two-run variety and came in consecutive innings. The four runs driven in during the 6th and 7th innings would prove to be crucial to the outcome of the game as Cleveland did not score again and Detroit scored four runs over the final two innings.
The home runs today by Jose Ramirez were his 5th and 6th over the last nine games, bringing his RBI total over that span to 12. Ramirez is getting hot at just the right time and it is going to help the Cleveland Baseball Club win games going into and possibly during the playoffs.
Carlos Carrasco delivered a vintage performance for Cleveland on the mound as he only allowed 1 hit and 3 walks with 11 strikeouts during his 7 innings of work. Carrasco did not really have to deal with a ton of pressure on the base paths. The only time Detroit put together a legitimate threat with Carrasco on the mound was in the 3rd inning. Austin Romine would single and Carrasco would walk rookie Daz Cameron. Carrasco buckled down and got both Issac Paredes and Victor Reyes to fly out and struck out Willi Castro to end the inning. Carrasco’s efforts in addition to the contributions of Jose Ramirez had Cleveland feeling pretty good early.
The less said about the bullpen, the better
Cam Hill pitched the 8th inning and it was not pretty. Detroit was able to score three runs with two outs in the inning. The aforementioned Castro drove in the first run and Miguel Cabrera would follow with a two-run homer. Hill would strike out Jeimer Candelario to prevent any further damage.
Brad Hand came on for the 9th in a non-save situation and things did not get off to a good start. Jorge Bonficaio would reach on an infield single and Niko Goodrum would follow with an RBI double. Hand regained his composure and got the next three batters out to end the game.
