Andre Drummond and his future with Cavs

The Boston Celtics are reportedly keeping tabs on the situation in Cleveland with their recently acquired center.

An article from Evan Dammarell of Forbes has named the Boston Celtics as one team “monitoring the situation” in regards to Andre Drummond and the Cleveland Cavaliers. That situation being that contract extension talks are no longer going on between the two parties. The San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Clippers are also teams mentioned as possible trade destinations by Dammarell, but the Celtics are the only team mentioned to be paying close attention.

The decision to for Cleveland to acquire Drummond from Detroit was puzzling from the start. It was a win-now move for a team far from being at the spot in the team building process. However, there was some hope that the Cavs could sign Drummond to a long term deal. This is something that which would make up for the potential and expected loss of Tristan Thompson this offseason. Now that contract talks are non-existent, trade discussions will no doubt surround the talented center.

If things change and the Cavs can work out a deal with Andre Drummond that would be a great move for the future of the team. If not, shopping him and acquiring assets to help the rebuild is a good alternative. Cleveland is a team that is not really in a position to be refusing assets in the team building department. If that is the result of moving Drummond, this is something that the Cavs would be wise to consider.

The Cleveland Monsters have signed the former Ohio State Buckeye to an AHL contract.

Just a few years ago the Columbus Blue Jackets drafted forward Carson Meyer in the sixth round of the 2017 NHL Draft. Now Meyer is signing a deal with the Cleveland Monsters, Columbus’ AHL affiliate.

Carson Meyer spent his first two college seasons at Miami University. During that time he appeared in 66 games scoring 16 goals and assisting on 20 others. Meyer’s final two college seasons were spent at Ohio State and his numbers improved. The Powell native totaled 53 points in 71 games, that breaks down to 26 goals and 27 assists. Meyer led the Big Ten Conference in power play goals with 9 during his senior season.

Jarvis Landry playing with broken rib

The Cleveland wide receiver is playing through a broken rib that he suffered during the Browns win over the Indianapolis Colts.

If there is one thing that everyone knows about Jarvis Landry it is that he is extremely tough. That toughness has been put to the test as Landry is currently playing with a broken rib. Landry stated that “It hurts” when he met with the media Thursday.

Playing through a broken rib is obviously not fun, but that will not stop Jarvis Landry. Landry is yet to miss a game in his seven-year career, even though he probably should have missed more than a few games last season. Toughness can go a long way, but it is important to make sure that an injury is not impacting play on the field. It is also important to make sure that an injury does not become worse by playing through it.

Jarvis Landry has 24 receptions for 319 yards in six games this season. Landry is currently on pace for a career-low in receptions and his second-lowest receiving yardage total in a season. The last time Landry finished with fewer than 976 yards receiving was his rookie season in Miami (758). Landry’s production in the passing game trending back in the right direction would be a welcome sight for a Browns passing attach that has not been great this season.

After being part of the Florida Panthers organization Thomas Schemitsch is moving north. The Cleveland Monsters have agreed to a one-year deal with the soon to be 24-year old.

The majority of Schemitsch’s action over the past four seasons have come with the Springfield Thunderbirds. Schmeitsch appeared in 219 games for the Thunderbirds and finished with 62 points (24 goals, 38 assists).

Thomas Schemitsch even made some appearances with the Manchester Monarchs of the ECHL. In 17 regular season games Schemitsch scored 1 goal and assisted on 7 others. During his 16 postseason appearances Schemitsch assisted on 6 goals.

Schemitsch should have plenty of opportunities to carve out a role in Cleveland when the next AHL season begins.
