Cody Parkey

Why the confidence in Cody Parkey?

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski stated on Monday that he still has a ton of confidence in their kicker.

For those hoping that the Browns would make a change at kicker it does not seem like its going to happen. Head coach Kevin Stefanski emphasized his confidence in Cody Parkey while meeting with the media Monday.

If there is anything Bears fans can tell you it is that having confidence in Cody Parkey is a mistake.

Cody Parkey has missed an extra-point in three consecutive games and that is not a good trend. The latest miss was the predictable doink variety and that is not a surprise considering Parkey’s past. While the most infamous doink is the “Double Doink”, Parkey hit the uprights six times in 2018 with the Bears in including four times in a single game. It is almost like Cody Parkey is addicted to doinks.

There are two positions in sports that when they are off, THEY ARE OFF. A closing pitcher in baseball and a kicker in football. Right now Cody Parkey is off and it is happening at the worst time possible. The Browns are fighting for the playoffs and could end up breaking their lengthy playoff drought.

If Cleveland does make the postseason it is clear that they have a liability at kicker and that could be a problem. Having confidence in Cody Parkey is liking making wishes with a monkey paw, there’s always a catch. You can wish for world peace and be invaded by aliens or a sandwich and the turkey is a little dry. The Browns are trusting Parkey and the twist is that he doinks kicks.
