Trevor Bauer wins arbitration case

In his second to last year of arbitration, Trevor Bauer won his case against the Cleveland Indians and will make $13 million in 2019.

The 2019 salary for Cleveland Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer has been set. Bauer won his arbitration case against the Cleveland Indians and will make $13 million this season. Cleveland reportedly countered with $11 million. Bauer was not the only pitcher to win his arbitration case today. Gerrit Cole and Alex Wood also won their cases per Bob Nightengale.

Trevor Bauer took to Twitter Wednesday afternoon to congratulate Cole and Wood.

Trevor Bauer has one more arbitration eligible year remaining before hitting free agency. That is when Bauer will begin his well publicized signing of one-year contracts. This is due to the fact of a bet Bauer made with a friend previously. It is safe to say Bauer will not lose that bet since losing would be incredibly painful.

Trevor Bauer’s 2018 performance

Trevor Bauer appeared in 28 games (27 starts) and pitched 175.1 innings. Bauer posted career-bests in several categories in seasons where at least 26 starts were made. Bauer appeared in four games in both 2012 and 2013.

  • ERA: 2.21
  • Strikeouts: 221
  • WHIP: 1.089
  • Home runs surrendered: 9
  • Walks issued: 57
  • Hits allowed: 134
  • Runs allowed: 51
  • Earned runs allowed: 43
  • K’s per 9: 11.3
  • Hits per 9: 6.9
  • Home runs allowed per 9: 0.5
  • Walks issued per 9: 2.9

It is relatively easy to see why Bauer won his arbitration case. When a player puts up a career-best season nearly across the board it is almost a given they will win their arbitration case.

Trevor Bauer’s 2018 campaign was good enough to warrant Cy Young consideration, finishing sixth among American League pitchers. Trevor Bauer will look to build upon his extremely successful season in 2019 and help lead the Cleveland Indians to another American League Central title at minimum with eyes on returning to the World Series.
