Indians manage only 4 hits in loss to Padres

It was not a great outing for the offense of the Cleveland Indians in their 8-0 loss to the San Diego Padres in Peoria, Arizona. Four hits, four measly hits. That is all the Cleveland Indians were able to muster in their 8-0 loss to the San Diego Padres Wednesday. Hitters of note Two of the Indians three hits came off the bat of Oscar Mercado. Mercado went 2-3 on the day and had an impressive day at the plate. Franmil Reyes was the only other Cleveland starter with a hit. Reyes slugged a double off of San Diego's Chris Paddack. Unfortunately his teammates were not able to drive him in. The only other Tribe hitter to collect a hit was Bobby Bradley. Bradley came in as a replacement for Jake Bauers and singled in his lone plate appearance. (More on Bauers later). Nolan J...

Indians need to continue strong play

The Cleveland Indians did what they had to do in Minnesota. Win the series. A series loss could have been trouble for the Tribe's playoff hopes. Indians got off to a strong start in a very crucial stretch. That being said their work is not done. Taking two out of three against the Twins is great but there is still a long road back.  Starting Monday Cleveland will face the angels for three games. In their previous matchup the Indians have won all three games. The three game sweep came at an opportune time for the Tribe as they closed the gap on the Twins. Perhaps this series could provide a similar result. Obviously the two names that the Cleveland pitching staff need to reduce the impact of are Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. That is easier said than done. Trout and Ohtani ar...

Adam Plutko has been surprisingly effective

Adam Plutko has stepped into the rotation of the Cleveland Indians and has been quite surprising filling for the missing starters. When one thinks of Adam Plutko images of Josh Tomlin 2.0 emerge. A pitcher who does not strike out a lot of batters, gets outs by contact and serves up home runs quite regularly. Over his career and the bulk of this season that has been true. Over the last seven starts things have been a bit different. Adam Plutko has actually been more than serviceable on the mound and the Tribe have desperately needed that without Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco being available. In his last seven starts Adam Plutko has a record of 3-2 and an ERA of 3.27. Over that span Plutko has allowed 15 runs on 36 hits while striking out 29 and walking nine. The home run numbers ...

Indians drop Game 2 to Royals

A first inning home run from Royals third baseman Hunter Dozier was the difference in the game as the Indians drop Game 2 1-0 to the Royals. All in all Adam Plutko had a good start. Unfortunately he gave up the only run of the game in the first inning and Indians lost 1-0. Plutko went seven innings allowing one runs on two hits while striking out four. It is really hard to ask for much more from Plutko. The offense on the other hand could have pulled their weight. Cleveland only managed to get three hits in the game. This poses a bit of a problem when trying to score runs. Francisco Lindor, Jason Kipnis and Greg Allen were the only Indians players to get a hit. Allen's hit was an extra-base hit, a double with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Unfortunately Tyler Naquin struck o...

Indians drop first game of road trip

The Cleveland Indians dropped the first game of their pre-All-Star break road trip in Baltimore, losing to the Orioles by a score of 13-0. Not a good start for the Indians in Baltimore. Only amassing six hits in their 13 run loss to the Orioles. Five players were able to get hits for the Tribe. Oscar Mercado was the only player with multiple hits, going 2-4. Carlos Santana went 1-3 with a walk. Jason Kipnis, Roberto Perez and Bobby Bradley all went 1-4. Yu Chang, Jake Bauers and Francisco Lidnor all were hitless in the contest. Things should turn around offensively in Saturday's and Sunday's games. Mike Clevinger got the start for the Tribe and things did not go well. Clevinger only lasted 1.2 innings and got hit hard. Giving up seven runs on five hits while walking three. This was ...

Indians shuffle pitching rotation

The Cleveland Indians have made some necessary changes to their pitching rotation starting Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins. After placing Carlos Carrasco on the injured list the Cleveland Indians had some changes to make. Their rotation already is without Corey Kluber, Mike Clevinger and Jefry Rodriguez. Now with Carrasco being away for an undetermined amount of time the rotation looks even more different than before. https://twitter.com/ZackMeisel/status/1136381736684859392 Against Minnesota Tyler Clippard is getting the start in a bullpen game Wednesday. Clippard is starting his first game since last season in Toronto. The bullpen approach may benefit the team in the short term. Cleveland's bullpen has surprisingly been one of the best in baseball this season and ma...

Indians adjust roster before Saturday’s game

The Cleveland Indians made some roster moves Saturday, calling up Greg Allen and Josh Smith while sending down Eric Haase and Adam Plutko. The roster of the Cleveland Indians continues to be a revolving door. Cleveland has decided to call up Greg Allen and Josh Smith and send down Eric Haase and Adam Plutko. Eric Haase was called up initially as a backup catcher option while Roberto Perez was temporarily sidelined. The Tribe needed someone to backup Kevin Plawecki if needed and Haase was really their only option. In a similar manner Adam Plutko was called up due to injuries. Plutko started two games while the Indians are without both Corey Kluber and Mike Clevinger. Plutko enjoyed one good start against Baltimore and struggled through one bad start against Tampa. With Perez returnin...

Indians shut down Orioles in 4-1 victory

Adam Plutko was phenomenal in his first start of the season, only allowing one hit in the Cleveland Indians 4-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Things could not have gone much better for Adam Plutko in his season debut. The Indians starter only allowed one hit in six innings. Unfortunately the one hit allowed by Plutko was a solo home run off the bat of Trey Mancini. Besides the solo homer, Plutko was fantastic. Granted it was against a lackluster Orioles lineup, but the fact remains that Plutko pitched better than most expected. The Tribe offense was carried by the duo of Jordan Luplow and Carlos Santana. After being down by one run early, Santana doubled to get into scoring position. With Luplow up at the plate he delivered with a two-run homer. https://twitter.com/ThisIs...

Indians: Next Man Up – Pitching

The starting rotation is off to an excellent start of the season. The pitching is keeping opposing teams swinging and missing and runs off the board. The bats and offense have struggled, but pitching has kept them in the game. Then, starting pitcher, Mike Clevinger was placed on the IL and will be out indefinitely. With Francisco Lindor and Jason Kipnis still out with injuries, adding another star player to the IL is not what the Indians needed. However, it’s what the Indians are now dealing with now. Clevinger was brilliant in his first two starts of the season. Through 12 innings, he allowed only two hits, struck out 22, gave up zero runs, and a WHIP of 0.50. Unfortunately, something didn’t feel right in his last start on April 7th against the Blue Jays. After only five innings, he w...
