Baker Mayfield

No excuses for Baker Mayfield in 2020

The success or failure of the Cleveland Browns offense will be on one person and one person only in 2020, Baker Mayfield.

Through the first two seasons of his career there have been plenty of other factors that have impacted the play of Baker Mayfield. As a rookie it was the worst coach of all-time Hue Jackson. In year two it was another bad head coach and poor offensive line play. In year three the Cleveland Browns are doing everything they can to eliminate those factors. There are no more excuses for Baker Mayfield if he fails in 2020.

The new head coach Kevin Stefanski should be able to cater to the strengths and weaknesses of Mayfield. Installing an attack that relies on the quarterback throwing the ball less is a great start. Pairing Mayfield with a quarterback who is familiar with this offense in Case Keenum is another step in the right direction.

The offensive line issues from the past? Gone. Cleveland went out and signed Jack Conklin and drafted Jedrick Wills Jr. to play the tackle position. No longer will Baker Mayfield have to rely on subpar blocking from players who are no longer in the league due to their own issues.

In the passing game the Browns went out and got the best tight end available, Austin Hooper. Hooper will be a great addition to the tight end heavy offensive of Kevin Stefanski. Now add in the newly drafted Harrison Bryant and Mayfield has plenty of quality options at the tight end position.

The Browns went out and bolstered their offensive line, hired a new coaching staff, and improved the supporting cast. The success or failure of Baker Mayfield in 2020 relies on one person and one person only. Baker Mayfield.
