Myles Garrett meets with NFL about reinstatement

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in regards to being reinstated from his indefinite suspension.

Myles Garrett was in New York today to meet with the NFL about his current indefinite suspension. The Cleveland Browns defensive end has been suspended since mid-November due to his actions in their win over Pittsburgh.

As Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com notes there is no timetable yet.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport provides some clarity about his return status, stating that the expectation is that Myles Garrett should be reinstated. Like Cabot, the return date is unknown at this time.

Rapoport mentions that Garrett had to undergo counseling after the incident. While some mocked the counseling aspect, it is completely understandable. What Myles Garrett did on the field was inexcusable, no matter what a stupid t-shirt says. Starting it, finishing it, none of that matters. What happened was disgusting and does not belong on a football field.

During Garrett’s absence, the Cleveland Browns got a rather good look at their defensive line depth. The verdict? They don’t have any. Sure, Chad Thomas or Bryan Cox did something productive from time to time. The problem? Cleveland’s backup players on the defensive line are not good enough. If the Browns find themselves in a situation where they need a backup player to step up they are in big trouble. They cannot go into next season with the current depth on their line. This is an area that the Browns can address in free agency or the draft.

When Garrett does return it will go a long way towards the Browns defense being productive in 2020. Garrett is one of the best defensive ends in the NFL and can be a difference maker for the Cleveland defense.

UPDATE

Myles Garrett is back. The NFL has reinstated Garrett effective immediately.
