Monsters: Ryan MacInnis recalled by Columbus

The Columbus Blue Jackets need some help due to the injury of Alexander Wennberg and have recalled Ryan MacInnis from the Cleveland Monsters.

The Cleveland Monsters will be without one of their key players when they return to the ice Wednesday. Ryan MacInnnis has been recalled by the Columbus Blue Jackets due to the injury of Alexander Wennberg. It could be an extended stay for MacInnis in Columbus as Wennberg is expected to be out for 3-4 weeks.

This will be the second stint in Columbus for the 23-year old Monsters center. MacInnnis spent seven games with the Blue Jackets earlier this season, totaling one point off an assist.

Ryan MacInnis has been a mainstay in the Monsters lineup since coming to the team last season. In his first year with the team, MacInnis had 24 points (4 goals, 20 assists) in 71 games. The newcomer even contributed as Cleveland made the playoffs last season, appearing in eight games, totaling 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists).

MacInnis has 22 points (6 goals, 16 assists) in 36 games this season. Two goals have been of the power play variety, one is a shootout goal, and one is classified as a game winner. The game winner came in a lopsided 7-1 victory over the Rockford IceHogs back on October 25th. It was Cleveland’s second goal of the game after they found themselves down a goal early. The Monsters rattled off seven straight goals in order to come away with a win.

Just how long Ryan MacInnis is up with Columbus is the question. Will MacInnis get significant ice time or be just an insurance policy in case of another injury? MacInnis only saw 9:45 of ice time on average during his last stint and Alexander Wennberg was averaging 16:32. It all really depends on how MacInnis performs and whether or not other players are able to step up in Wennberg’s absence. Either way, Cleveland could be without Ryan MacInnis for quite a while.
