Monsters have three roster moves Sunday

The Cleveland Monsters have three roster moves made on Sunday, involving goaltenders Joonas Korpisalo, Matiss Kivlenieks and forward Calvin Thurkauf.

It was a busy Sunday for the Cleveland Monsters. Just one day after their overtime win in Rochester, two players are coming back while another is on the move to Columbus.

Joonas Korpisalo’s stay in Cleveland was going to be brief. Exactly how long Korpi would stay was entirely related to performance . The fact that Korpsialo was impressive on Saturday for Cleveland allowed Columbus to pull the trigger on this move. Korpisalo saved 32 of 34 shots on goal in his lone conditioning start with the Monsters.

Cleveland is getting back Matiss Kivlenieks and Calvin Thurkauf. Kivlenieks appeared in three games during his recent stint with the Blue Jackets. Kivlenieks allowed seven goals in 138:55 minutes of ice time with a save percentage of .870. These last three appearances do not compare to his outstanding debut in Madison Square Garden back in February.

Calvin Thurkauf returns to Cleveland after just one game with Columbus. Thurkauf did not register any shots but did have 8:01 minutes of ice time in Saturday’s overtime loss in Nashville.

With the roster deadline on Monday fast approaching, more moves could be on their way. If a player is on an NHL roster at 2:59 P.M. Eastern Time Monday, they are ineligible for the remainder of the AHL season, this includes playoffs.
