Matthew Struthers signs with Monsters

The Cleveland Monsters have agreed to an AHL contract with 20-year old forward Matthew Struthers.

When the Cleveland Monsters return to the ice they will be bringing a new face with them. 20-year old forward Matthew Struthers has agreed to a contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets AHL affiliate. This is the latest player Cleveland has signed during the stoppage. The Monsters previously signed Wyatt Newpower and Adam Helewka.

Matthew Struthers enjoyed his best OHL season in 2018-19, totaling 81 points (31 goals, 50 assists) in 61 games. This performance apparently was more than enough for Struthers to see some time in the AHL. Struthers appeared in five games for Laval Rocket scoring one goal.

Struthers spent the 2019-20 season split between the North Bay Battalion and the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League. The Milton, Ontario native finished with 59 points (22 goals, 37 assists) in 62 games played. This was not the first stint with the Attack for Struthers. Struthers broke into the OHL with the Attack in 2015, spending three seasons total with the club. Struthers would spend three seasons with North Bay before going back to where he started.

Cleveland has apparently seen enough to take a chance on Struthers while they may see some players on the move.
