Leonys Martin is on a hot streak

Cleveland Indians outfielder Leonys Martin has been on an absolute tear at the plate.

Like many of the Cleveland Indians players, Leonys Martin got off to a slow start in 2019. Martin only had four hits in his first 27 at-bats, his batting average was an uninspiring .167. Something changed and now Leonys Martin is raking.

Over the last seven days Leonys Martin is batting .429 with three home runs, one double and three runs batted in. Martin has also scored six times and reached base via walk six times.

Things began to turn around when the Indians took a trip to Detroit to face Martin’s former team. In that series Martin went 5-11 with two home runs, a double and three RBI’s. Martin also walked three times during the weekend series with the Tigers. Cleveland was able to win two of the three games in the series.

Leonys Martin continued his hot streak at the plate in Kansas City. Martin managed to get four hits in 10 at-bats. Martin hit another long ball during the series, coming during Sunday’s 9-8 loss. Unfortunately Martin’s production was not enough as the Indians were swept in the three game series.

The biggest difference between before and during the hot streak is limiting strikeouts and working walks. Before the streak Martin struck out 13 times while only walking twice. Over the past week Martin has walked six times and only struck out five times. Martin also managed to quadruple his extra-base total from two to eight. The improvement in regards to extra-bases have led to Martin driving in runs. All four of Martin’s RBI’s have come during this streak.

Hopefully Cleveland will be able to get more production from other bats in the lineup so Martin’s efforts do not go to waste. Martin is on a hot streak currently and it would be a shame if the Tribe are unable to get more wins out of it.
