Indians power past Tigers 8-2

The Cleveland Indians slugged four home runs and scored eight runs in thier lopsided victory over the Detroit Tigers Tuesday.

Coming into Tuesday’s game in Detroit the Cleveland Indians only had four home runs on the year. During Tuesday’s game the Indians doubled their season total as they went deep four times in the contest. Brad Miller and Jake Bauers got their first home runs as members of the Indians. Leonys Martin and Roberto Perez also hit their first long balls of the season.

The surprising fact about the six-run victory is that Jose Ramirez, Carlos Santana and Hanley Ramirez went a combined 0-11 on the day. Hanley Ramirez was the only one to reach base with a walk in the eighth inning.

Corey Kluber looked fantastic as he bounced back from a rough start against the White Sox last week. Kluber went six innings, allowed one run on seven hits and struck out eight batters. One other run did score while Kluber was on the mound, but that was due to an error by shortstop Eric Stamets. Kluber does look to be back to his former self rather than the lackluster performance against Chicago.

Leonys Martin started the game with a bang, homering off the second pitch of the game. Detroit would answer in the bottom of the inning, Niko Goodrum singled to tie the game at one. The Indians proceeded to score four unanswered runs. Brad Miller hit a two-run homer to make it 3-1 in the second. Roberto Perez would add a solo shot to make it 4-1 in the fifth. Later in the inning Eric Stamets would hit a sacrifice fly which would allow Miller to score, making it 5-1.

Detroit chipped away in the bottom half of the inning with a Miguel Cabrerea RBI double, this would make the score 5-2. Jake Bauers slugged his first home run of the year to get Cleveland’s lead back to four. The final two runs came courtesy of a little league home run. Eric Stamets singled up the middle with Brad Miller on base. Mikie Mahtook misplayed the ball and it rolled all the way to the wall, allowing Stamets to score.

Game 2 will take place Wednesday at 1:10 P.M.
