Indians defense pathetic in loss

The Cleveland Indians defense was awful and put on an absolutely pathetic display in Friday night’s 6-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox.

The defensive effort from the Cleveland Indians Friday was an absolute joke. Even though they were only credited with four errors, it feels like it should have been more. Every time the defense could make a mistake it seemed like they jumped on the opportunity. It would be impossible for at team to coordinate a worse performance.

This is not an acceptable performance from the Indians defense. Their lackluster performance led to Trevor Bauer allowing six earned runs. Although it seems like more than half of them are not his fault. The defense behind Bauer let him down time and time again. Bauer was obviously frustrated with how everything was going.

The defense was awful Friday. Trevor Bauer’s reaction is entirely warranted. Although as McNeil on Twitter pointed out, Michael Scott’s words to Toby Flenderson on The Office may have been more accurate.

The bats were silent for the Tribe Friday and the endless defensive miscues did not help matters. With the offense struggling there is zero room for error. Apparently the team decided to go full on in the other direction. The effort on the field was that of a team expected to contend for the all-time loss record and not a team many picked to go to the postseason.

If Friday’s defensive effort came from the Baltimore Orioles or Miami Marlins it would not be a surprise. The fact it came from a team that should not be this bad defensively is inexcusable. The Indians are not a team that can afford to have this awful effort on defense. Cleveland needs to be able to limit the errors so the offense at least has a chance. Especially considering the offense can be disappointing at times.
