Domingo Santana designated for assignment

The Cleveland Baseball Club has designated outfielder Domingo Santana for assingment Monday after a 24 game stint with the team.

Following the blockbuster trade Monday the Cleveland Baseball Club made one internal roster move, designating outfielder Domingo Santana for assignment. The team needed room on their roster after adding Austin Hedges, Cal Quantrill, and Josh Naylor from San Diego.

Domingo Santana was disappointing during his brief stint in Cleveland. In 24 games Santana slashed .157/.298/.286/.583 with 2 home runs, 3 doubles, and 16 RBI. This simply was not what was expected of Santana when Cleveland took a flier on him prior to the season.

Cleveland had two similar situations with Hanley Ramirez and Carlos Gonzalez last season, taking chances on both and buying low. Ramirez would slash .184/.298/.327/.625 with 1 double, 2 home runs, and 8 RBI in 16 games with the team. Gonzalez slashed .210/.282/.276/.558 with 2 home runs, 1 double, and 7 RBI in 30 games. Cleveland moved on from both players during the 2019 season.
