David Njoku rescinds trade request

Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku has reversed course and decided to rescind his trade request after some meetings with the organization.

Less than a month ago David Njoku requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns. This came after hiring Drew Rosenhaus as his new agent, a specialist in getting players out of Cleveland. Njoku has now changed his mind, deciding that he is committing to the team according to reports.

David Njoku even tweeted his newfound commitment to the team.

Njoku’s now rescinded trade request was not necessarily a surprise. The Browns went out and signed a superior tight end in Austin Hooper and drafted another option in Harrison Bryant. Hooper is a much more accomplished player and he is less than two years older than Njoku. Wanting to go somewhere else to prove himself would not have been a terrible option for someone who is no longer the number one option at tight end in Cleveland.

While Kevin Stefanski uses a lot of tight ends in his offense, the presence of two good receivers in Odell Beckham Jr., and Jarvis Landry is going to eat in to the targets for Njoku. Njoku would be fourth in pecking order for receiving targets behind OBJ, Landry, and Hooper, that is without considering any impact the running backs have in the passing game. Njoku could be the fifth option in the passing game when looking at the offense from a broad perspective.

If David Njoku is able to translate his potential into production it would go a long way for the Browns this season. The question still is whether or not he can actually do it.
