Dante Exum

Dante Exum is a reclamation project for Cavs

The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired Dante Exum from the Utah Jazz and can give him every opportunity to resurrect his career.

Dante Exum was a heralded prospect when he was selected with the fifth pick in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz. A series of injuries and underwhelming performances have stunted his career. Now on the move to Cleveland, Exum has a chance to turn his career around.

With Jordan Clarkson out of the picture, Cleveland has approximately 23 minutes per game to disperse among the players on the roster. Now, Exum won’t receive all of these minutes. There are plenty of other players on the roster who will receive a good portion of these minutes, such as Kevin Porter Jr. There is also the fact that Dante Exum has only averaged 18.7 minutes per game over the course of his career. That number has dropped steadily since his rookie season. From 22.2 MPG all the way down to 7.5 this MPG this season. Minutes will be allocated to several players on the roster, that will include Exum to some extent.

Dante Exum is under contract until the end of 2020-21 season. This will allow the Cavaliers to give him plenty of time to improve his game. Cleveland is a team that can afford to give players a chance to resurrect their careers. The Cavs are not going to make the playoffs, so there is a lot less pressure on Exum to perform. This could greatly benefit Exum as there are only a finite number of chances to remain in the NBA. This could be close to the end of the road for Exum if things do not work out.
