Collin Sexton

Collin Sexton to participate in Rising Stars Game

Originally the entire group of young Cavs were snubbed as they were not selected to participate in the Rising Stars Game. That has now changed. Due to an injury to Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro, Collin Sexton will now play for the United States team.

Tyler Herro suffered an ankle injury which will keep him from participating in the Rising Stars Game. This allowed Collin Sexton to have the opportunity to perform on a national stage.

The fact that all three of Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, and Kevin Porter Jr. were not selected didn’t sit well to begin with. Granted Porter had an injury at the time and the Cavaliers are one of the worst teams in the league. However it is worth noting that injured players are selections of teams like this all the time. They are not able to participate because of their injury and a replacement player is named in their place. All-Star Weekend is about individual performance, not team success.

Collin Sexton being able to participate in the Rising Stars Game among some of the best young players in the game will be a great experience for the second-year guard. Although he probably would have rather gotten in the first time around and not because another player was injured. Sexton can work towards being selected as an All-Star through the normal process next year and get in on his own merit.

Collin Sexton is averaging 19.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 32.2 minutes per game this season. “Young Bull” has converted 46.1% of his shots from the field this season. Sexton is shooting 36.8% from three-point range, a bit of a dip from his mark of 40.2% as a rookie.
