Christian Kirksey

Christian Kirksey released by Browns

The Cleveland Browns have released linebacker Christian Kirksey. Kirksey only appeared in nine games over the last two seasons after appearing in 64 straight to start his career

The move is not unexpected. The writing has been on the wall for quite some time. Christian Kirksey was due to make $16 million in base salary over the next two seasons.

With the team releasing Kirksey and declining to re-sign Joe Schobert they have a massive hole at linebacker. Their options current consist of Mack Wilson and Sione Takitaki. While they could be contributors at some point in time, it would be a complete disaster if the team does not add at least one veteran linebacker to the roster. The team needs someone who has at least been there before. There is value that comes with a veteran in the locker room. Let’s just hope those in charge realize this.

The bright side?

Looking at the upcoming draft this only further opens up their options. With holes all over the roster they can realistically consider the best player available when they make their selection at 10. All options appear to be on the table when it comes to the upcoming draft.
