Cavaliers lose in final trip to Oracle

The Cleveland Cavaliers lost in the final trip to Oracle Arena 120-114.

The fact that the Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the Golden State Warriors is hardly a surprise. In fact the surprise is that the difference in the final score was only six points. Considering that Cleveland was down almost 20 at the half and only lost by six is quite impressive. Golden State is in a completely different class of NBA team than the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Cleveland struggled from three-point range and that can be a recipe for disaster when facing Golden State. Cleveland went 7-30 from beyond the three-point line while Golden State made 20 of 37 attempts. There were two areas where the Cavaliers excelled. At the free throw line and rebounds. Cleveland made 21 of 23 free throws and out-rebounded Golden State 56-41. The difference coming on the offensive glass with 12 offensive boards compared to Golden State’s four. Although the lack of offensive rebounds for Golden State can be attributed to the fact that they made 52.9% of their shots on the night while Cleveland only made 44.3%.

Collin Sexton led the way for Cleveland as he scored 27 points. Sexton made just under half of his shots Friday night (10 makes in 21 attempts). However Sexton was able to go 3-7 from three-point range and make all four free throw attempts.

Cedi Osman made half of his shots en route to a 15 point, six rebound, two assist and two steal performance. Osman stuffed the stat sheet fairly well in the loss.

Larry Nance Jr. finished with his second straight double-double. Nance scored 13 points on 6-10 shooting (1-3 from deep) and grabbed 14 rebounds. Three of Nance’s rebounds were of the offensive variety.

While Cleveland did not win the game, the location of the game will always be remembered for Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals where the Cavaliers came back from a 3-1 deficit to win the title.
