Browns acquire Odell Beckham Jr.

The Cleveland Browns made a blockbuster trade Tuesday evening acquiring wide receiver Odell Becham Jr. from the New York Giants.

It happened, it finally happened. Odell Beckham Jr. is a member of the Cleveland Browns. The Browns and Giants agreed to a deal which sends the superstar wide receiver in exchange for Cleveland’s first round pick, a third round pick and safety Jabrill Peppers. Additionally the picks exchanged in the deal involving Kevin Zeitler and Olivier Vernon also revert to their original teams. Adam Schefter had the trade terms Tuesday night.

The swap of the picks in the earlier trade was reported early Wednesday.

What this trade also does is remove Breshad Perriman from the equation. Shortly after the deal was agreed to Perriman and the Browns agreed to nix the deal that between the two parties that was agreed to earlier in the day. Cleveland and Perriman did have a one-year deal worth $4 million for 2019, but now Perriman will be on the same deal with Tampa Bay.

In the grand scheme of things losing Perriman really does not hurt all that much. If acquiring Odell Beckham Jr. costs a team Breshad Perriman it is fairly easy to stomach. Cleveland can find a replacement for the role Perriman would have played, but it is next to impossible to find a player like Beckham.

Baker Mayfield now has two excellent receiving targets in Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. This is in addition to David Njoku and potentially Rashard Higgins if he re-signs with the Browns. Considering that Higgins was tweeting at Beckham after the trade the odds seem good that Higgins will remain in Cleveland.

The Cleveland Browns are going for it now, which is exactly what was expected. Going all-in with a quarterback still on a rookie deal is the template in the modern NFL and the Browns are doing just that.
