LaMelo Ball

BR has Cavs selecting LaMelo Ball in NBA mock draft

The Cleveland Cavaliers have one of the worst records in the NBA and very well could have the opportunity to draft LaMelo Ball in the next NBA Draft.

This could be interesting. Bleacher Report put out a mock draft that has the Cleveland Cavaliers with the second overall pick. Their selection? LaMelo Ball. Yes, that LaMelo Ball. Brother of Lonzo and LiAngelo. Son of the polarizing LaVar (speaking of which, just relaunched Big Baller Brand). Ball could be an interesting selection, not just because of his talent, but cause of his fit with the roster as it stands currently.

Ball is listed as a point guard in this mock draft, but at 6’7″, he is far from the traditional point of yesteryear. If Ball were to play the point in Cleveland it would create some interesting situations with their current backcourt. The Cavs currently feature Darius Garland and Collin Sexton as their starting guards. Adding Ball to this mix would mean one of Garland or Sexton would head to the bench, if not traded.

Perhaps with his size and the current young roster pieces currently on the Cavs, a point forward role may be best for LaMelo Ball in this hypothetical situation. Ball is currently averaging 6.8 assists per game in Australia. That is what the combination of Darius Garland (3.8) and Collin Sexton (3) are averaging this season combined. Cleveland desperately needs someone to run an offense. While there is hope that could be Darius Garland, his presence should not prevent them from taking Ball. That is if he is indeed an option for whichever pick they end up with in the draft lottery.
