Andre Drummond

Andre Drummond planned to stay with Cavs

The Cavaliers center stated that he intended to remain in Cleveland.

There were questions about what the future held for Andre Drummond during this past offseason. Those questions were answered when Drummond picked up his player option for the 2020-21 season. Drummond commented on that decision when he met with the media Tuesday.

By picking up his option, Andre Drummond is set to make $28.7 million for the upcoming season. Drummond remaining with the Cavs is crucial considering that Tristan Thompson left for Boston in free agency. Drummond’s backup is the recently acquired JaVale McGree and while he can play an important role, he is no Andre Drummond.

Having Andre Drummond in the mix when the season starts will be huge for the development of some of the younger players on the Cavs roster. Players such as Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, Kevin Porter Jr., and Isaac Okoro. While the possibility exists that Andre Drummond is dealt at some point this season, having him at the beginning will go a long way for the Cavaliers.
