Airing of grievances: Indians edition

It is time for the airing of grievances for the Cleveland Indians.

Second base

Who is going to be the starting second baseman? Is it an internal option or will a free agent be signed? Perhaps a trade will be made that solves the second base issue? Just do something, we are all tired of waiting.

  • UPDATE: The Cleveland Indians have signed second baseman Cesar Hernandez to a one-year deal. It’s a Festivus miracle!
Outfield

Besides Oscar Mercado there isn’t an everyday outfielder on the roster. Franmil Reyes is a designated hitter. Jake Bauers has potential and upside, but seems more like a first baseman. Serious moves need to be made. Standing pat with the group currently on the roster will not sit well with Indians fans. This is a group of people who are quite vocal about the state of the roster. When other teams are offering contracts to players who make a ton of sense for the Tribe and nothing happens for Cleveland, it is infuriating.

Francisco Lindor

Are you keeping him or trading him? Has the deadline for other teams to submit their best and final offers passed yet? Whatever the intentions are with Francisco Lindor, just make a decision and soon. Indians fans want to know if they will watching the best player in franchise history in Cleveland or elsewhere.

Mike Clevinger

To the surprise of many, Mike Clevinger has come up in trade rumors. Most often with Francisco Lindor.

Why?

Unless a team is offering the farm (literally their entire farm system) for Clev and Frankie there is no reason to entertain these discussions.

First Base

Is there a plan beyond this season for first base? Carlos Santana is fantastic and we have all agreed that his one year in Philly didn’t happen, but he can’t play forever. Eventually there will have to be someone who will take his spot in the infield. Maybe it is the aforementioned Jake Bauers. Maybe it is a free agent. Nobody knows. Just get a plan in place so when a change has to be made you are prepared for it.
